Today is the anniversary of the Declaration of Bahia as Yoruba Capital for all the Americas
During a
visit to Brazil in June 2018, the Ooni of Ilê-Ifé, the City-Kingdom-Cradle of
the Yoruba Civilization, declared:
“... The
Yoruba people around the world must not lose their identity, because we are all
children of Odduwa, whether we are Itsekiri, Edo, Gan, Nagô, Igala, Lucumi,
Tapa and Yoruba, we are all brothers, all o fus share the very same origin that
isthe Kingdom of Ile-Ife…”
The new
generations of Nago people in Brazil today do not speak our language in connection
with their daily activities. However, music, dance, ancient history, food and
religion are extensively practiced in many parts of the country.
On July
10, 2018, The Ooni of Ile-Ifé, King Adeyeye Enitan Babatunde Ogunwusi Ojaja II
publicly announced that “...the noble land of Bahia de Todos os Santos will,
from today, be officially recognized as the Yoruba Capital of all the
Americas…”
