Supporters of
the creation of a Yoruba nation told the Nigerian government that they do not
cooperate with the Movement for the Independence of Biafra (IPOB)
This was in response to
a statement by the federal government warning that they should not cooperate
with Biafra's guerrilla group, IPOB.
Since September 14,
2021, Yoruba Nation activists and other Nigerian ethnic groups have protested
at UN Headquarters in New York.
The announcement comes
as the President of the Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari and other world
leaders address the world during UN General Assembly.
The chairman of a
coalition of Nigerian militant groups, Professor Banji Akintoye, is also
actively participating in the protests outside the UN headquarters to raise
awareness around the world about the situation ignited by nomadic
pastoralists in southern and central Nigeria.
The reason for the
Nigerian government to emit this alert to the Yoruba separatist movement, is
that the Movement for the Independence of Biafra is, by law, a group of
non-peaceful activities.
In a statement from the
president's chief adviser, Garba Shehu, said the IPOB had about 50,000 troops.
He added that "no
one would count the number of those who request the creation of the Yoruba
nation while they were conducting violent protests..."
The Nigerian
presidential spokesman's comments came after members of the IPOB joined the
group calling for the creation of a Yoruba Nation at a rally outside UN
headquarters in New York.
It was at this rally
that they protested the injustices happening in Nigeria and called for the
establishment of the Yoruba Nation…. (Yoruba Nation One million man
