Oyo in mourning mood, King Lamidi Adeyemi has gone to join His Ancestors
BBC Yoruba has contacted Oyo Palace for details on the death of King Lamidi Adeyemi III, the Alaafin of Oyo.
The news that reached us this morning tell us that the Sovereign of the State of Oyo, a direct descendant of Sango, King Lamidi Adeyemi III, has gone back Home to join his Ancestors.
The movement of authorities in connection with the event points out to a picture in which it is observable that all the cultural programming related to this event has already started to be put in place at the Palace and is going on throughout this morning.
One of the princes at the Palace of Oyo told BBC Yoruba that, as soon as that “sad happening” was confirmed, the ceremonial associated with the culture was triggered immediately.
"We will keep the press informed as the official programming evolves and the course of the ceremonies gets defined", said the prince on behalf of the Royal House.
The news circulated the night before, and BBC Yoruba went straight to the Palace early today, where they received confirmation of the death.
When asked when exactly this happened (as some reports circulated that the king had died on Friday evening), he said that "it was this morning that it really happened".
We will bring in more the details as soon as new information emerges.
